Dec. 12-16

Merry Christmas from Room 121!!!!

• Caroling- Friday at 10:00 Parents are welcome to come and join in the caroling. We would like the children to wear their red uniform shirt and a Christmas hat. The children may wear blue jeans. Dismissal is 11:30 Friday.
• reading- We will finish Peppermints in the Parlor and begin Bound for Oregon. Our skill focus is following written directions.
• math- We will test chapter 12 and begin division.
• history- We are discussing the pioneers.
• science- The circulatory system test will be Tuesday.
• language- We should complete verbs.
• Bible- We will complete our study of Genesis and begin Exodus after Christmas break.
• I will send folders and the grade sheet home on Wednesday this week.

Dec.5-9

• spelling-unit 17
• reading-Peppermints in the Parlor
• math- We should complete chapter 12.
• Bible-Luke 2:1-14 is due next Monday. We are doing a review unit in the Bible Guide.
• language- We are working on verbs.
• history- We will be testing explorers Wednesday, and then begin pioneers. Remember that we will be wearing pioneer period clothes the day we come back to school in January.
• science- We will be working on the circulatory system.
• Caroling- The fourth graders will be leading the caroling Friday the 16th. We will dismiss at 11:30 that day. I will let you know the time of the caroling.

Nov. 28- Dec. 2

• spelling-Unit 16 (patterns: y, ey, and ie)
• reading- We will begin PEPPERMINTS IN THE PARLOR. Our skill focus will be figures of speech. (idioms, personification, similes, and metaphors)
• math-pp.230-235
• Bible - Gen. 46:1-7,47;1-12, and 50. MEMORY WORK: Luke 2:1-7 will be due Monday, Dec. 5th.
• history- pp.103-109
• language- We will continue working on verbs. (irregular past tense)
• science- We will be finishing the nervous system and beginning the circulatory system.

Nov. 14-18

• Pumpkin Project- Your child should be planning his/her pumpkin. Several children have shown me their plans for their "animal" which included the sketch and planned materials. They also included the planned adaptations, diet, and habitat. We will use their poster board to make "character webs" for their creation. The poster will be used in the presentation of their pumpkin on Oct.31.
• I really am enjoying your children. This class is so obedient, happy, and congenial.

Sept. 12-16

Mrs. Hixon, Anna's grandmother, read a book to our class after she had visited the second grade for Grandparent's Day. She has the best reading voice!!!! Mrs. Hixon is a retired school teacher and led the Grange Hall at Old Alabama Town.

Thursday was such a pretty day that we went outside to play our spelling game, Battleship. The children drew the name of their opponent out of a bucket.








On the rainy days this week, we played a sequence game.

• reading- We will be reading The Boys Start the War together. Our skill lessons will still focus on sequence and cause/effect. Our fourth graders will be required to read at least three books and test on them each nine weeks. (AR) The three grades will be averaged as one daily grade.
• spelling-Unit 2
• math- We will be working on standard, word, and expanded forms of numbers.
• history- We will finish the five regions of Alabama. We will also have a daily grade next week. Your child will need to study our outline.
• science-We will continue our study of the classification system. Your child has note cards to study.
• language-We will be working on the four kinds of sentences. We will have a daily grade next week.

August 15-19

SUCH A PRECIOUS CLASS! I really enjoyed your children and our first few days together.

Pioneer Days will be the first week after Christmas Vacation. We all wear pioneer "period outfits" during that week. It would probably be a good idea to plan ahead, especially for the girls.
