  • language-  We will complete adverbs and prepositions.
  • math- We will be adding and subtracting fractions with whole numbers.
  • history- We are reading about Alabamians. The grading for the wax museum will be Thursday and Friday. We will draw names to see  which children perform each day.
  • We go to the capitol and the White  House of the Confederacy on Wednesday. (May 9th)

  • history- We will be discussing reconstruction in Alabama. Also, the children have their Alabamian to begin reading and planning for the wax museum. I will send more details about the museum at another time.

  • Bible- We will begin Joshua.

We celebrated Pi Day with some of the high school math students. We made Pi bracelets.



  • Science Fest is Friday. We begin science activities at 8:10 and have an early dismissal at 11:30.
  • Science- (in class) We will make imovies Monday and Tuesday, review, and have a test on our six natural disasters next Thursday.
  • History- We will be discussing the opening of the Civil War (Ft. Sumter) and 1st Bull Run.
  • Language- pp.214-220
  • math- pp. 496-501 (area and perimeter)
  • Spelling- unit 29 (test Thursday)
  • reading- Blue/skill: dividing words into syllables

  • history- We will be discussing the causes for the Civil War, the differences in the North and the South, Alabama leaving the Union, and the states in the CSA and the USA.(pp.198-202)
  • language- pp. 204-213
  • science- We are working on six natural disasters. We should finish the study this week and make IMOVIES next week as a review before our test.

  • reading - The Mysterious Benedict Society/skills: inferences, quotations, and syllables
  • math- pp.324-333
  • history- We will finish reading and discussing the chapter about the capitals of Alabama and then begin the Civil War. (pp.198-199) Mrs. Hixon is coming this Wednesday to teach a lesson about slave ads. She taught this lesson at Old Alabama Town for many years. It is very interesting.
  • science- We are working on natural disasters. The children will be doing some hands on activities about tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. in science lab this week and next week.
  • language- The children are learning how to punctuate conversation.
  • Bible- We will be reading and learning about the Tabernacle. Exodus 20: 1-11 is due Monday and then Exodus 20:1-17 is due Friday.

Thank you all for "outfitting" pioneers. I hope the children enjoyed learning about the life of the pioneers in Alabama as well as on the Oregon Trail. Thank you to the sweet mothers that drove on the field trip, and to the sweet mothers who baked molasses cookies and tea cakes for us. They were delicious!!!!

Jan. 4 - Jan. 13

  • spelling- We will use pioneer words for a spelling test on Friday. The test will be taken on slates. Next week, we will be on Unit 19 in the book.
  • reading- We will be reading BOUND FOR OREGON. The children will be reading from this book each night.
  • math- We will review multiplication and then begin division. (chapter 13-pp.246-252).
  • history-We will be studying pioneer life in Alabama.(pp.130-143) We go to Old Alabama Town on Thursday the 12th. Children should wear their pioneer clothing on that field trip. We have two pioneer speakers coming to school this week.
  • science - We will review the six systems and have a test on them Wednesday the 11th. Our next unit will be about electricity. We will just introduce this unit on the 13th. (pp. 606-607)
  • language- adjectives (pp.136-143)
  • Bible- We will begin reading Exodus.
